Why Knowing Your Date's Personality Can Be Important
65Understand Personalities
I often come across people that ask questions like "why is he/she behaving this way?" or "why is he/she doing this?" followed by some fairly common actions people take while dating. The first thing is everyone is different, and therefore, dates differently. While the obvious comes to mind, like extroverts, and introverts, people asking these "why" questions don't seem to understand that personalities play an important role in any relationship and learning to identify these personalities is a key to successful interaction with others.
And no, you don't need to be a psychology major to be able to identify personality types. In fact, there are 4 main types of people: people oriented, task oriented, dominant, and easy going. It's easy to understand why people with similar personality types have very few problems in their relationships. They think and act alike. But when you put two people with opposite personality types together, they tend to struggle in their relationship, often times complaining that their date does or says things they just don't understand.
As an example, take a people oriented, easy going personality against a task oriented, easy going personality. OK, they're both easy going, but how does a people oriented personality compare to a task oriented personality? The obvious difference is the people oriented personality go out of their way to please others. They're peace makers. They let others make decisions and will rarely say no when requested to do something. A task oriented personality takes a methodical problem solving approach to life. They lean more towards good ideas, complex concepts and intriguing solutions rather than towards feelings. They thrive in situations where they can give advice and relate well to others through information. But, they can't make timely decisions because their knowledge doesn't usually help them.
I think you're getting the idea here. The key is being able to identify certain characteristics that make each personality trait unique. Once you can easily make the identification, you just need to adjust the way you interact with that specific personality, which in turn will reduce conflict in your dating life. I don't mean to imply that personality types are so clear cut, that it's going to be easy. On the contrary, the personality types will often blend into another type.
