Bad Communication - The Ultimate Relationship Destroyer
63Is Talking Communicating?
When trying to communicate with a man, do you notice he either doesn’t listen or doesn’t talk?
He Doesn’t Listen
Do you feel like what you say goes in one ear and out the other? Have you repeatedly asked your man to do something, only to have it ignored? It appears he doesn’t care or just isn’t listening to you. The same thing happens when you try to talk about where your relationship is going, or something that’s upsetting you. He seems more interested in the ballgame or what you’re making for dinner. It’s frustrating, isn’t it?
He Doesn’t Talk
You notice your man is upset about something but when you ask him what’s wrong, he replies “Nothing”. He just doesn’t want to talk about it. He shuts you out and leaves you trying to figure out what’s bothering him.
Have you thought for a second that you share less of your feeling with your man? I know I do at times because if I try to share my feelings with my man, I get nowhere and it’s frustrating.
Talking Isn’t Communicating
Now, if you can sit down and communicate openly with each, you’ll both feel better and even bring you closer together. The only problem is communicating more isn’t the answer. It’s how you communicate that really matters.
Remember when you first started dating and everything was fun, communicating wasn’t an issue? But as time went by, every comment was being analyzed and taken wrong. I can relate because I’ve been there.
Maybe it’s the way something is said that somehow makes it sound condescending or judgmental. This causes us to become defensive right off the bat, but it doesn’t have to be this way.
Don’t take offense to everything. Take the time to analyze the body language, tone and what prompted the remark. Also men are brought up differently from women. They are taught to keep their emotions bottled up and deal with them.
Basically, we communicate in ways that keeps us from getting the reaction or response we’re looking for. We eventually start to keep our emotions to ourselves, and the relationship starts to feel like a dead end.
